Routine cleaning around your building is likely a regular part of your schedule. Vacuuming, mopping, and general wipe-downs are great ways to ensure your building looks clean for employees and visitors. But what about the big stuff? Summer is the perfect time to take note of what areas around your building could use a deep clean.
If you answered “a” on any of the above questions, it might be time to call a professional commercial cleaner. Let’s take a closer look at each question and determine which areas around your building could use some attention this summer.
How would you describe the traffic levels on the carpets in your building?
The amount of traffic through your building can have a significant impact on the appearance and cleanliness of your carpeting. Depending on the area of your carpet and how often it's trafficked, it might be time for them to be deep cleaned! If your carpets have low levels of traffic, deep cleaning is typically only needed once a year. If you have active, high traffic areas of carpeting, quarterly deep cleanings are typically needed. If you feel that your carpets fall somewhere in between, consider bi-yearly deep cleanings.
When you look at the tile floors in your building, what do you see?
Tiled floors can add a feeling of luxury to your building. However, when their shine begins to dull, it can be an eyesore for employees and customers. When you walk on the tiled floors in your building, do you see clear reflections of the lights above? This is a great way to determine if stripping and/or waxing is needed. Similar to carpeting, the amount of traffic on your floors directly affects how often you should be deep cleaning them. For higher traffic areas, such as lobbies or restrooms, quarterly stripping/waxing is needed. Less active foot traffic areas can usually go a year between cleanings.
How would you describe the color of the grout on the tile floors in your building?
The grout between tile flooring is commonly overlooked during the deep cleaning process. After all, most people don’t realize just how dirty it is. Dirt and bacteria love to hide in the crevices of tiling. If the grout in your tiles is very dark in color, it is time for deep cleaning. Consider the location of your grouted tile. If these floors are in places where bacteria is more prevalent (e.g. bathrooms, locker rooms), you should consider deep cleaning the grout quarterly or bi-yearly.
When was the last time the inside and outside of all the windows on your building were cleaned?
Thoroughly cleaning both sides of every window in your building is typically only needed once a year. Routine, spot-cleaning happens regularly between deep cleanings. Window deep cleaning is important during the summer months because with spring came pollen and dirt. That debris clings to windows and can leave a dirty residue that leaves windows looking less than clear. If it has been more than a year since your last window deep cleaning, it may be time for one this summer.
Look at the exterior of your building (walkways, siding, etc.), what do you notice?
The exterior of your building is the first thing that employees and customers notice. It is also the only part of your building that is subject to Mother Nature. Rain can cause black algae to grow on sidewalks and building siding, which is unsightly and can grow out of control if not taken care of. Pressure washing is also a good idea to do during the summer months because it cleans those dark stains that spring showers left behind. Depending on where your building is located, pressure washing can usually be done once or twice a year.
